Install JAVA J2SE 5.0 JRE 1.5.0 and Tomcat 5.5 on ClarkConnect 4.x

To be able to specify where java will be installed, I use the Self-Extracting Binary and not a RPM. Because the software I am planning to use requires Java 1.5.x, that's the version I will install. A second part is Apache Tomcat 5.5 (5.5.27) which will be the application server.

  1. Goto the SUN website to download Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0.
  2. Select the "Linux" platform, agree to the license agreement and continue.
  3. Copy the download link for the "bin" file (not the "rpm.bin" file) and paste it in the script below.
  4. Check what filename the install has (starts with "jre-1_5" and ends with "-linux-i586.bin") and use that to set JAVA_HOME in the below script. You need the first part without the ending string. The first part will be the name of the created directory.
  5. Save and run the script.
  6. Hit [space] to view the Java license and type "yes" when asked to continue.
  7. Amend the tomcat "conf/server.xml" file if already something listens to port 8080.
  8. Start tomcat with the tomcat "bin/startup.sh".

Installing Gallery2 on ClarkConnect 4.x

A few steps to install Menalto Gallery 2 (minimal) on Clark Connect 4. This may be run as a shell script, but please look carefully if all the changes are to be made. I have first installed the CC Gallery (v1) module, so the image-libraries are installed. The webserver and MySQL daemon are running. You probably also have to change paths, usernames, passwords, etc. to suit your situation.

Adding an extra Hard Drive to ClarkConnect

I have connected my hard drive to the first ATA port on the PCI (S)ATA board, so my device location is /dev/sda

First remove any existing partitions and create one big one using the fdisk command, enter:

fdisk /dev/sda

Option d to delete each of the existing unwanted partitions.
Create a new one with the n option.
To write the partition table and exit enter w.

To format the new partition with the Linux 'ext3' file system enter:

mkfs.ext3 -m 0 /dev/sda1

SABnzbd+ as NewsLeecher installed on ClarkConnect 4.x

Installation of SABnzbd 0.4.x on ClarkConnect 4.x and install As A Unix Daemon. Includes updating Python to 2.5.x and installing development tools, Cheetah, Yenc, Par2, UnRar, UnZip and FeedParser.
According to Installing and Removing the Developer Tools the development tools should be removed after installation. I'm not sure the development tools are further used by SABnzbd or its components. However when executing the commands to remove them, they already were removed. I do not know how? Besides I'm wondering if gcc and python-devel can be removed as well?

Include random Gallery image from remote Gallery2 site as Drupal block

Today I was looking for a block or a piece of code to include a random image from my Gallery2 (Menalto) site. A drupal module exists, but I was not only looking for just a block, but also for a solution which uses a remote gallery.

The following code at http://gallery.menalto.com/node/29268 does the trick perfectly.

<?php @readfile('http://www.example.com/g2gallerymain/main.php?g2_view=imageblock:External&g2_blocks=randomImage&g2_show=title'); ?>

ISP : Merk/Type; VoIP; Lifeline, VoIP unlocked.

Ubuntu and Novatel embedded 3G (UMTS/HSDPA) module

I got me a brand new Toshiba R400 12" Laptop / TabletPC with an embedded Novatel Mobilink 3G GPRS / UMTS / HSDPA wireless card. I'm trying to get it operational under Ubuntu Linux. I believe Ubuntu is a more stable operating system than Vista is. The R400 is preinstalled with Vista. If this works I wonder if I have less Citrix VPN problems. I'm sure the problems with a pcmcia / cardbus CF cardreader will be gone.

PCMCIA cardreader

My new 12" Laptop/Tablet PC isn't equiped with a CF/SD cardreader. Fortunately it has one PCMCI expansion slot. I'm looking for a card which I can leave in the PC. I wish to leave the memorycard in it as well. Sticking out is not handy.

The search for the Holy Koelkast
