Parted Magic / Clonezilla
Alternatief voor PowerQuest Partition Magic en Norton Ghost.
Hoewel er ooit een gecombineerde LiveCD is geweest van de combinatie Parted Magic en Clonezilla is dat met de huidige versie niet meer. CloneZilla is er later weer uitgesloopt. Ook de dualboot CD pmagic-clonezilla.iso is niet meer beschikbaar. In v4.2 is CloneZilla toegevoegd en in v4.6 er weer uitgehaald.
Ik gebruik daarom de twee losse livecd's.

De problemen die spelen bij de GParted LiveCD van na v0.4.6 zijn geen issue op Parted Magic. Wel had ik een probleem met opstarten van PartedMagic op mijn HP Compaq 610. De GParted LiveCD werkt daar wel.

Parted Magic 4.7 was cleared by gedakc (Curtis Gedak) and myself to not display this behavior.

GParted Live is a Debian based OS that contains the GParted program.
The GParted program has had the same resizing code for years. It doesn't matter if you use gparted-0.4.0 or gparted-0.5.0, it's exactly the same thing when it comes to resizing partitions. This problems is caused by the Linux kernel and Parted. GParted has nothing to do with it, but sense it's the application used to interface these, it's getting the blame.
Curtis is suggesting that you use GParted LIVE 0.4.6-1 because it has an older kernel that didn't create this issue.

12 December 2009 : Problems with Partition Resizing Continue
Unfortunately it appears that partition resizing problems continue with GParted Live versions 0.4.8-1 through 0.5.0-3.
In the case of the NTFS file system, The error message seen after the partition is resized is:
ERROR: Current NTFS volume size is bigger than the device size!
The problem appears to be related to the combination of packages, Linux kernel, and patches used in the GParted Live image. We are investigating to find the root cause of the problem.
Until this problem is solved we recommend GParted Live 0.4.6-1 for resizing all file systems.
The bug report to track this problem is bug #604298.

In het verhaaltje staat nog dat er clonezilla bij zit, dit is helaas niet meer waar. (gekopieerd van een tijdje terug? vorige versie zat het ook al niet meer in). Doordat sommige gebruikers liepen te zeuren over een melding heeft de auteur het eruit gesloopt. Belachelijk in mijn ogen, want het is een groot gemis voor een verder complete tool. Nu is er wel een download met een dualboot optie (pmagic/clonezilla live) maar dan moet je dus booten tussen je acties.
