Just installed the XP version XBMC PRE-10.5 r32693 (20100811) on my old MSI MEGA180. I've connected my LG 32LF2500 32" wide-screen to the second VGA port using a 15 meter long cable. Used the Nvidia driver to set the screen to 1920x1080@50hz. It all works great. Of course it took me a while before everything worked.

Why running on XP? Simple. I've got a couple of Windows games and emulators which I, and my kids, cannot live without :)

First setting up the LG to the FULL HD resolution. In a previous setup with MediaPortal I used "PowerStrip" to set the required resolution. This time I fortunately figured out how to do the same with the Nvidia drivers. Works just splendid. Previously returning from a game to MediaPortal did not return to the right resolution. Now with the Nvidia drivers this isn't a problem anymore. Also XBMC seems to be better starting a external application and after exiting it returning back.

Firmware

De firmware is bij LG van invloed op de "component bug". hierin wordt het component signaal verkeerd geinterpeteerd waardoor 0-10% grijs voor de tv gelijk aan zwart is. Vanaf firmware cortez 3.20 is dit probleem mogelijk opgelost, dit controleer je via het serive menu. De upgrade van de 37lc3R naar v3.22 leverde bij ons geen verbetering op.

When is something open source or open standards compliant?

Open Source software is software of which the production or live version is available using an OSI compliant open source license. Any other so called open source software should, in my opinion, be viewed as shareware, demo software or crippleware. Perhaps the source code is available so in the literal sense a marketeer could call it open source, but it's not the Open Source way of thinking.
